1. Pipes

Pipes serve as the vital foundation of every plumbing system, efficiently transporting water throughout various sections of a building. They come in various materials, such as PVC, copper, brass, and galvanized steel. Each type has its specific uses — for instance, PVC pipes are often used for drains and vent lines, while copper pipes are typically used for water supply lines due to their resistance to corrosion.

2. Fittings

Fittings connect pipes and change the direction or diameter of the pipe run. Common types of fittings include elbows (which change the direction of the pipe), couplings (which connect two pipes of the same size), and reducers (which connect two pipes of different sizes).

3. Valves

Valves control the flow of water in a pipe. There are several types of valves, each serving a different purpose. For instance, a gate valve controls water flow and is typically found on the main water supply line. On the other hand, a ball valve is often used on supply lines for fixtures because it provides a reliable shut-off mechanism.

4. Traps

Traps are curved sections of pipe located under sinks and other fixtures. They retain a small amount of water after the fixture's use, which forms a seal that prevents sewer gases from entering the home. The most common type of trap is the P-trap, named for its shape.

5. Faucets

Faucets control the release of water from your pipes. They come in various styles and designs but generally consist of a handle, a spout, and a cartridge or valve that controls water flow. Faucets can be found in kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, and anywhere else where controlled water access is needed.

6. Flanges

Flanges are flat rims found at the end of pipes, allowing them to be bolted together. They are commonly used when connecting a toilet to the floor or a sink to a wall.

7. Washers

Washers are small, flat discs that provide a tight seal between two plumbing components. They are often used in faucets to prevent leaks.
